    Meet Valerie

    Valerie M. Matthews has recently taken on the role of Director of the Joint Office of Neighborhood Safety & Engagement for Shelby County, where she continues her legacy of transformative leadership. In this new position, she will leverage her extensive experience in strategic resource allocation, grant acquisition, and operational efficiency to enhance community safety and well-being throughout the city of Memphis and Shelby County. Her ability to secure significant funding and collaborate with government entities will be instrumental in driving innovative strategies to address safety challenges and improve quality of life for residents.

     

    Previously, as a key leader in Memphis-Shelby County Schools, Valerie oversaw more than 100 staff members and managed initiatives that impacted over 110,000 students. She was pivotal in integrating cutting-edge digital learning tools and optimizing system performance through Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and Agile methodologies. Now, in her new role, she is poised to set new standards for community-centric safety and collaboration across Memphis and Shelby County.
